This famous drink originated in Malaysia but is now popular… Teh Tarik (aka "pulled tea" in Malay) is a strong, hot tea mixed with sweet and creamy condensed milk that's repeatedly poured ('pulled') between two cups or mugs until it transforms into rich, frothy tea heaven.
Instructions to make Tea Tarik (Pulled Tea):
- In a saucepan, bring water to boiled 1 liter water, once the water already boiled let it rest for few minutes
- Place tea dust in a cottontea strainer or tea bagsover one metal mug and add the boiled water.
- Let it stand for 10 to 15 minutes before removing
- In a separate metal mug add Condensed and evaporated milk, brown sugar, dark sugar.
- Carefully pour two mixtures back and forth from the height of the arm's length to create a thick froth
- Once frothy and well mixed pour the teainto two or 3 glasses and serve immediately (serving hot)
I am in love with Hong Kong style milk tea (see recipe here), and on a trip to Malaysia, I discovered that I love Malaysian pulled tea, teh tarik, just as much. The delicious teh tarik, which means "pull" tea, is made using sweetened creamer. Some people add evaporated milk as well. What sets teh… Teh tarik is a Singaporean and Malaysian icon.
