- To start with rinse the dal well and put it in a pressure cooker with some water, turmeric powder and salt. Pressure cook it for about 2-3 whistles on medium heat.

- In another small pan (preferably tadka pan) heat remaining oil and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they splutter add chopped garlic and crushed ginger. Saute till garlic turns golden brown. Next add dried red chilli and fry for few seconds. Then add a pinch of hing and finally add a little bit of red chilli powder to give colour to the tempering. Turn off the flame.
- Add this tempering (tadka) to cooked dal. Thus palak dal tadka is ready.
